Bring Your Tablet Back in Top Shape

Tablets are often the easiest device to use to read books, magazines, comics, and other digital media. After years of use, however, your device may experience the typical symptoms of wear and tear, which, apart from dents and a shattered screen, aren't usually caused by outside forces like drops and such. When a perfectly usable tablet costs almost half the price to have repaired at the shop, you can turn to research, self-reliance, and some DIY know-how to easily repair your beloved eReader.

What Are the Main Parts of an ASUS ZenPad?

  • Main Board: Also called the logic board, the main board is the circuit board that houses all the main components that run the operating system. This includes the processor, the memory, data storage chip, Wi-Fi, and other chipsets that keep the millions of processes in check. Replacing this major component is often the last resort to getting your tab up and running because it is basically the "soul" of your device because it contains all the device data of your device.
  • Touch Screen: A very common replacement part, it is often easy to replace on many tablets. The ZenPad 3 line has 8- and 9.7-inch variants, which all feature rich, vibrant screens. The screen is easy to replace but takes patience because it is fused to the midframe. The midframe is where all the components are screwed into, so a replacement entails transferring all the components to the new assembly.
  • Battery: The battery is one of the first things that can conk out. The common problem is that when you plug in your charging cable, the status fluctuates from charging to unplugged. Thankfully, the battery is easy to replace as it is the first thing that becomes exposed when removing the backplate of the ASUS tablet.

What Auxiliary Parts Can I Buy?

  • Power Connector: When the device refuses to charge, this is often the part that is broken. The Type-C connector on some models are soldered directly to the motherboard but are easily replaceable because only the four posts of the connector have solder on them and not the terminals.
  • Front Camera: The front camera is accessible when you remove the backplate. It is located at the top of the device and is secured by screws. Be extra careful with the thin ribbon cables when you replace the camera.
  • Loudspeaker: The loudspeaker consists of a slim bar that houses small but powerful drivers. These are easily swappable by removing the securing screw and unfastening the cable connecting it to the motherboard. On some models like the S 8.0, the speaker system consists of a set of two but are also easily swapped out.
