Bosch Dishwasher Door Springs

A dishwasher can used to save you time by washing dishes after a big family meal. When your dishwasher breaks, you might immediately start looking for dishwasher parts to fix it. There are many dishwasher parts, including door springs for Bosch.

How do you know your dishwasher door spring is broken?

The most common indication that your door spring is broken is if your dishwasher door falls to the floor when you open it. It could be that only one is broken. You can tell if this is the likely case if the appliance door quickly drops open without any resistance.

Ideally, you should replace the springs on both sides even if only one is broken. This keeps the control tension the same on both sides of the door.

What other Bosch parts might be needed besides springs?

You might also need to replace the dishwasher rope pulley kit. When you get into the repair, you may find that this is the only one of the parts that is broken. This will cause the same problems as a broken door spring.

Can you repair the dishwasher door by yourself?

Yes. Replacing a door spring can be a DIY repair job for anyone who has a little repair experience with a few hand tools. There is some disassembly required, and here are the steps to follow:

  • Make sure the appliance is clean and empty of all dishes and water. This will make it easier to move. Then disengage the power supply.
  • Lower the appliances front feet if necessary and unscrew the attachment to the underside of the cabinet.
  • Pull the machine forward. If you pull on the door, it may fall, so try pulling the sides or bottom.
  • Remove side panels if the machine has side panels. These should be quickly and easily removed by removing a single screw at the top front corner of the panel. At this point, you should be able to see all parts of the spring assembly. The parts include the cord, pulley, and spring. If you have ordered a full door spring kit, it will include all three parts.
  • Remove the spring with a screwdriver or a pair of pliers. Then, you can install the new spring with a few careful hits of a hammer. If the cord and pulley parts are still intact, then at this point you can reattach the cord to the spring. If this doesn't seem to work well, then start from the other end. If you are replacing the pulleys and cord also, then remove the old ones, attach the cord to the spring, and replace the pulley system.
  • Put the side panel back on.
  • Repeat the last three steps on the other side.
  • Push the machine back into place, reset legs, and attach to the counter.
  • Re-engage power supply.
