All You Need to Know About BMW 325i Engines for Sale

BMW 325i is equipped with a powerful M50 engine that offers maximum efficiency to the vehicle. The engine is also the first engine in BMW cars to use the automatic VANOS system and Valvetronic technology. If you're looking for a used BMW e36 325i engine for sale, eBay can help you get a good deal on complete engines.

Features of BMW 325i engines

BMW 325i uses the M50 engine that was produced between 1990 and 1996. These were straight-6 DOHC petrol engines that replaced the earlier M20 type. In 1992, there was a technical upgrade of the M50. The new M50 TU engines used variable valve timing by adjusting the phasing of the intake camshaft.

What are the different variations of 325i engines?

There are three different variations of BMW 325i engines. A brief overview of each engine is described below:

  • M50B24TU: These engines were used between 1993 and 1995 for models such as E36 325iA/2.4. It produced 185 hp at 5,900 rpm and a compression ratio of 10.5:1.
  • M50B25: E36 models of BMW are equipped with these engines. You are most likely to find them in 1991 and 1992 E36 BMW 325i and BMW 325is models. It produced 189 hp at 6,000 rpm and a compression ratio of 10.0:1.
  • M50B25TU: These were a technical upgrade of the original M50 engine. Used in E36 325i and 325is models produced between 1993 and 1995, the peak torque became available at 4,200 RPM. Other features and performance levels were similar to the M50B24TU engine.

These engines should not be confused with engines used in BMW 325xi fourth-generation models. While BMW 325xi is similar to BMW325i, the engines used in both models are different.

VANOS system

The M50 engine was the first engine to use the variable valve timing system in BMW cars. When introduced in 1992, BMW 325i was among the first models equipped with these engines. Sometimes, you will also come across a BMW 325i motor for sale that uses the Valvetronic variable valve lift system as an integrated component. The main reason for using the VANOS system in BMW 325i was to improve the idling quality and smooth power development.

Besides improving performance, the VANOS system is a critical part of the BMW 325i engine because it helps these cars meet or exceed the driving quality guidelines set by authorities. As BMW is a powerful car that is mostly bought due to its agility and speed, the VANOS system helps open the valve earlier to control various elements related to speed. The proactive action of the system enhances torque, reduces fuel consumption and lowers emissions during sudden acceleration and high speeds.
