Enjoy the Low-Light and Green-Screen Capabilities of the Logitech C922 Webcam

Since its founding in the early 1980s, Logitech has offered an array of hardware peripherals for PC interaction. One of its major product lines has been webcams with the C900 Series offering quality video imaging with a simple plug and play setup. The Logitech C922 continues this tradition with upgrades like updated auto exposure technologies and background removal capabilities.

What are some of the differences between the Logitech C922 and the C920 webcams?

Logitech has made small changes in the camera housing that might be noticeable to you if you are a longtime C920 user, but they are subtle and do not change the performance. Its built-in microphone has been upgraded and actually consists of two microphones, one placed on either side of the camera, that provide stereo sound.

Video upgrades on the C922 include:

  • A lens design that displays a wider 78-degree field of view
  • The ability to capture 60 frames per second at 720p
  • Improved autofocus and light detection for crisper images in low-light conditions
Is the Logitech C922 green-screen capable?

Yes, it is. Logitech makes use of Personify's Intelligent Shape Recognition software in the C922 webcam. This is an upgrade, as the Personify ChromaCam software comes loaded in the webcam. It works by identifying you in the field of view and separating your image from the rest of the objects in the shot.

Previous entries in the C900 Series (like the Logitech C920) require you to employ external software like TriDef SmartCam.

What comes with a new Logitech C922 in the box?

The webcam has a 5-foot cord with a USB plug. On Logitech's C922 webcam page, it indicates that new packaging also includes a small tripod and a clip-on design if you prefer clipping the webcam onto your laptop or monitor. You will also receive user documents as well as a three-month user license for the XSplit broadcast app. The Logitech C922 does not come with a privacy cover like earlier versions of the C920 did. See the manufacturer site for details.

Is the Logitech C922 compatible with all video apps?

The manufacturer does list Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) as well as the XSplit Broadcaster from SplitMediaLabs in the webcam's specifications. This does not mean, however, that they are the only two video call apps that this webcam will work with. You should consult other video application sites to determine if they are compatible with the Logitech C922.
